Country Club of Roswell (Private)

2500 Club Springs Drive, Roswell

STAFF: Kevin Smith is the General Manager; Tim Farrell is the PGA Golf Professional.

PAR/YARDAGE: Country Club of Roswell plays to a par 71 with three sets of tees: Blue (6.593 yards); White (6,068) and Red (5,151).

COURSE RATING/SLOPE: 72.1/133 (Blue); 70.1/130 (White); 71.1/125 (Red).

ABOUT THE COURSE: Among the Atlanta area’s most enjoyable country club layouts, the Country Club of Roswell is on the short side, measuring just under 6,600 yards from the back tees. The key is keeping the ball in play off tee, as the course is on the narrow side, with the majority of the holes bordered on one or both sides by houses. Although the presence of OB stakes is constant, there is sufficient room to drive the ball, with longer hitters able to keep driver in the bag for much of the day because of the absence of serious length. The course has been renovated since it opened in the early 1970s, with some recent work on the short but perilous 10th hole, with fairway bunkers added to place considerable pressure on the tee shot. The short second to a peninsula green is a scary shot from the fairway, and having to hit it from the sand is downright frightening. The 10th is one of several holes with water hazards prominently in play, some off the tee, others on the approach shot.

The hazardous holes include a pair of excellent par 5s, with the short-ish, downhill 18th among the area’s most scenic and seemingly inviting holes, although a lake hugs the entire right side all the way too the green. The short 16th is the most memorable of the par 3s, with water and a undulating greens more than compensating for the lack of length. Only two of the par 4s exceed 400 yards from the back tees, but several place a real demand on solid, thoughtful shotmaking, with a few carries of substance required. Although there are no pronounced elevation changes, Country Club of Roswell has plenty of roll to its fairways and around many of the greens, with a quality short game and deft putting touch necessary to capitalize on the lack of length. The conditions are first rate and the club is one of the most affordable and family-friendly in the metro area, with a thriving junior program.

  1. Tim Farrell says:

I would say that the description is accurate however I would also add that the course is maintained in impeccable condition by our Golf Course Superintendent, Cory Hopke and his staff. The entire course was renovated in 1995 with continual improvements since then. Our greens were converted to Crenshaw Bentgrass during the renovation and the cart paths have been replaced with concrete. The club places a strong emphasis on family activities in golf, tennis and swimming. Please visit our website for more information.
