Clayton State finishes 15th at Bobcat Invitational

EATONTON, Ga. – March 23, 2010 – The Clayton State Lakers men’s finished 15th in the talented 17-team field at the Bobcat Invitational at the Cuscowilla at Lake Oconee on Tuesday.

The Lakers shot a final-round score of 305 on the par-70, 6,730-yard course and finished with an overall score of 917. Clayton State edged North Greenville by one stroke and finished one stroke off the pace of Peach Belt Conference rival USC Aiken and four strokes behind Rollins.

Lynn won the event with an 881, finishing two strokes ahead of Belmont Abbey(883), five strokes ahead of Florida Southern(886) and seven ahead of West Florida(888). Other PBC teams posted Lander(889), Georgia College(893), Columbus State(896) and UNC-Pembroke(907).

Valdosta State(894), Barry University(895), Nova Southeastern(898), North Alabama(901) and Rollins(913) and Carson Newman(935) completed the field.

Individually for Clayton State, senior Neil Thomas finished tied for 24th overall with a 224 (74-78-72). He finished 10 strokes off the lead of individual low medalist Peter Tarver Jones from Belmont Abbey.

In addition to Thomas, senior All-American Wade Binfield finished tied for 29th with a 225 (76-74-75), while junior Adam Novakowski finished tied for 57th with a 231 (78-71-82). Rounding out the Lakers scoring was freshman Michael Lee tied for 79th with a 240 (83-79-78) and sophomore Andy Bate finished tied for 85th with a 243 (85-78-80).

The Lakers are back in action on Monday at the Jameson Inn/Bearcat Invitational in Greenwood, S.C.

Seven Georgia Golfer Qualify for U.S. Mid-Amateur

Three players tied for medalist honors at 3-under-par 69, including two Georgians – Richie Taylor of Snellville and reigning GSGA Player of the Year David Noll Jr. of Dalton. They were joined by Herbie Sargent of Pelzer, S.C.

Bill Hodges of Thomasville, Ga., was the lone player at 70 to also qualify. Behind him were five players tied at 71 for the four remaining qualifying spots. Chris Hall of Kennesaw, Ga., and Kris Mikkelsen of Atlanta, Ga.
