CATEECHEE GOLF CLUB NOW UNDER CANONGATE MANAGEMENT

NEWNAN, Ga — Canongate Golf Clubs (www.canongategolf.com), is pleased to announce it now manages Cateechee Golf Club in Hartwell.  A Mike Young course design, Cateechee has been recognized as a four-star destination by Golf Digest and is considered among the finest golf experiences in North Georgia. Young boasts many designs in Central America as well as the City Club of Marietta and Heritage Golf Club in Atlanta.

Cateechee has achieved Audubon Signature Sanctuary recognition and has been a top ten “Best New Affordable” course in the nation, according to a 1999 Golf Digest report. In addition to the golf experience, the Club features the acclaimed Waterfall Grille, which serves classic American cuisine six days per week. Available for both member and public play, the course is gaining notoriety among both locals and visitors to the area.

Canongate Golf Clubs has been operating golf clubs in the Atlanta area since 1965 and currently owns or manages private, semi-private and destination courses in five states.  According to Cateechee owner and developer Lee Barton, “We have watched Canongate and how they operate over the last few years.  We have total confidence that they will elevate the property by driving more golf to Cateechee, and we are excited to see the resulting benefits to both the Club and the overall community of Hartwell.”

Castro places second on Nationwide Tour Ex-Tech star within range of PGA Tour card

Seven Georgia Golfer Qualify for U.S. Mid-Amateur

Three players tied for medalist honors at 3-under-par 69, including two Georgians – Richie Taylor of Snellville and reigning GSGA Player of the Year David Noll Jr. of Dalton. They were joined by Herbie Sargent of Pelzer, S.C.

Bill Hodges of Thomasville, Ga., was the lone player at 70 to also qualify. Behind him were five players tied at 71 for the four remaining qualifying spots. Chris Hall of Kennesaw, Ga., and Kris Mikkelsen of Atlanta, Ga.
